From Lawyer to Voice Teacher: My Story
From the courtroom to the choir rooms, my journey has been one of transformation and rediscovery. Growing up, singing was my sanctuary. I joined choirs in both Primary and Secondary School, but my ambition always pushed me to learn more. I yearned to master the high notes of ‘Think of Me’ from ‘Phantom of the Opera,’ which led me to take voice classes and further immerse myself in music
However, as I transitioned into adulthood, the demands of the legal profession took over. The relentless stress and exhausting workload of being a lawyer left me with little time or energy for singing. My passion for music was overshadowed by the pressures of my career. With no effective way to regulate my stress, it began to take a toll on my health. Long hours at the computer caused neck pain and nausea, and the mounting workload became unbearable. Eventually, I made the difficult decision to leave the legal profession for good.
Leaving the legal world behind, I returned to my love for singing. As I began teaching voice, I found that it raised more questions than answers, sparking a deeper interest in the art of singing and its benefits. I trained in Somatic Voicework (TM) which values the body as much as the voice. Encouraged to integrate complementary wellness modalities, I explored various practices like Taichi, Jin Shin Energy Healing, Clinical Hypnotherapy, Aromatherapy, Feng Shui, and more.
Through this journey, I realized that integrating these wellness practices into my voice teaching could enhance not only my students’ singing abilities but also their overall health. My unique approach, which combines Jin Shin Voice® and Brain-Based Voice Learning (NeuroVoice®), reflects this holistic philosophy.
Today, my singing practice is my sanctuary, a vital part of my routine that helps me regulate stress and maintain balance in my busy life. The act of singing allows me to reconnect with myself, finding peace and harmony through the power of my voice. It is more than just an artistic expression; it’s a deeply personal journey that keeps me grounded and centered. I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact that a holistic approach to voice can have on one’s well-being.
Through my teaching, I am committed to sharing this transformative experience with my students. I strive to create a supportive and nurturing environment where each individual can explore their voice and discover their healing potential. My goal is to instill a sense of well-being and empowerment in all my students, helping them not only improve their singing but also enhance their overall health and emotional stability. Whether you are a professional performer, a public speaker, or someone simply looking to find their voice, I believe that the journey we undertake together can lead to a richer, more balanced life.
Yours Truly,
