Jin Shin Energy Healing is a holistic mind-body modality that uses gentle touch to restore energetic balance. Energy flows through 26 invisible energy points in the body. When these points become blocked, energy stagnates—leading to muscular tension, restricted breath, vocal strain, and emotional stress.
By placing your hands on specific energy points and waiting for the vascular pulse to rise and subside, you can help the body release tension and restore flow. If you don’t feel a pulse, simply hold the positions for at least 2 minutes.
Below are some of my favorite voice-focused “quickies”—short, effective holds to support breath, resonance, and vocal ease.
Table of Contents
ToggleShallow Breath, Hunching
The front of the body represents the exhale—our ability to give and let go. Use this hold if you or your student experiences shallow breathing, tight abdominals, or limited rib movement.
Instructions:
- Right hand: Where the neck meets the left shoulder
- Left hand: On the left hip crease (hip fold). This harmonizes energy points 11 & 15. (With thanks to Jocelyne Chidiac)
Stiff Shoulders, Back, and Neck
The back of the body represents the inhale—our ability to receive. Use this hold for neck tension, shoulder stiffness, or postural collapse.
Instructions:
- Right hand: Where the neck meets the left shoulder
- Right hand (again): Under the left buttock This harmonizes energy points 11 & 25.
Throat, Tongue, Soft Palate Tension, Nasality
This finger pose helps release tension in the vocal tract and reduce nasality.
Finger pose 5 (Figure 3) handles all of the above.
Instructions:
- Touch the pad of your left thumb with the nail of your right middle finger
- Touch the nail of your left thumb with the pad of your right thumb Hold this pose while singing to support vocal clarity.

Pitch Support and Vocal Recovery
Use this hold before warm-ups to reduce prep time or after extended voice use to cool down. Known as the 15/6 hold in Jin Shin Energy Healing (figure 4).
Instructions:
- Right hand: On the right hip crease
- Left hand: Hold the arch of your right foot
