You’ve said yes to a carol, a company dinner or a family performance, and the date is two weeks away. You can still prepare well.
Two weeks will change how ready you feel and how reliably your voice behaves. It won’t rebuild a voice.

ToggleWhat two weeks can do
- Help you choose the right key and arrangement.
- Help you notice where effort shows up, and try a couple of changes.
- Give you practice in conditions that look like the real performance.
- Give you a routine for the day.
What not to expect
- A new range. Notes that are out of reach today will probably stay out of reach for this performance, so change the song or the key.
- A long-standing problem fixed. A throat that has tightened for years needs more time than a fortnight.
- A medical issue treated. Persistent hoarseness, pain, or a sudden change in the voice belongs with an ENT doctor. Read more about when you should see one: Vocal Coach vs Speech Therapist: Who Do You Need
- A change you haven’t tested. A change is a clue, and the real test is whether it holds up under pressure.
- Perfection. A voice you can rely on is a good goal for two weeks.
The two-week plan
Days 1 to 3: decide and simplify
Choose the song. If part of it sits too high or too low, lower the key, shorten the song or simplify the arrangement now. Record yourself singing it, and note where effort shows up and what stays reliable.
Days 4 to 7: try small changes
Spend about 10 minutes a day experimenting on the trouble spot: sing it quieter, change the vowel a little, slow it down. A first coaching session fits here, early enough that you have time to practise what you learn.
Days 8 to 11: run it for real
Sing the whole song standing, with the backing track or accompaniment, at performance volume. Sing it into a microphone if one is part of the plan, and sing it for someone. Note what holds and what doesn’t.
Days 12 to 14: protect your voice
Practise lightly, keep your usual sleep and water, and add no new material. On the day, arrive early for any sound check, do a gentle warm-up, and try nothing new.
If your voice cracks or tires on the night
Carry on with the next phrase. Stopping draws more attention than a small slip. If a note is out of reach, sing the phrase more quietly or take a breath and continue.
If your voice is hoarse right now
Don’t push it. If the hoarseness lasts more than a few weeks, or comes with pain, see an ENT doctor. If it’s a passing cold, simplify the song and rest.
How a first session fits into two weeks
A first session with Ms Grace Ng is 60 minutes (S$150), with no package attached. Sessions with our associates range from SGD45-90. Learn more about our 1:1 Coaching here. We listen to what your voice does, look for what changes it, and recommend the next step. The earlier it happens in the fortnight, the more time you have to practise what you learn. Message us on WhatsApp with your date, and we’ll tell you what’s possible, though we can’t promise availability.
The same plan works for a Chinese New Year gathering, counting two weeks back from your date. Our small-group Voice Crack Workshop on Saturday, 23 January 2027, is another option if a crack at the register change is your trouble spot.
