Sing More Of the Songs You Love
Perhaps you've always liked to sing. You sing along to songs you love. You enjoy karaoke, choir or making music with other people. Or perhaps singing is simply something you've always wanted to do better. Now you'd like to develop your voice. Sing higher. Develop your range. Find more power. Make difficult songs feel easier. Get Better at Something You Love
Many adults come to Vocalogy with a very straightforward goal: “I want to improve my singing.” We take that seriously. Good vocal technique can give you more choices as a singer. It can help you develop range, coordinate your voice more effectively and approach music that previously felt difficult or out of reach. But developing your voice doesn't have to turn singing into another source of pressure. You can learn because you're curious. Because there's a song you've always wanted to sing. Because you'd like to see what your voice is capable of. Or simply because getting better at something you enjoy is satisfying in itself.
You Don't Need an Exam to Have a Reason to Improve
Adult life already comes with plenty of things to achieve. Singing doesn't have to be one of them. At Vocalogy, you can develop your technique without working towards grades, examinations or competitions. There is no requirement to prove how good you are. You might want to sing higher. You might want a stronger voice. You might want to understand why some songs feel easy and others don't. You might want to explore a completely different style of music. Or you may simply want singing to feel better than it does now. Your reason for singing can be your own. And if, somewhere along the way, you decide you would like to take an examination, audition for a choir or work towards another goal, that possibility is there too. It is a choice, not an expectation.
Technique Gives You More Choices
Technique matters. If you want to expand your range, sing with more power or make demanding music easier, the voice needs the coordination to do it. But technique is not the destination. It is what gives you more possibilities. More songs you can sing. More sounds you can make. More musical choices. More confidence to try something you might previously have avoided. At Vocalogy, we approach vocal technique functionally. Rather than simply asking you to imitate a particular sound, we help you explore how your voice is working and develop the coordination needed for what you want to do. Because the goal isn't to make every singer sound the same. It's to give you more ways to use the voice you have.
There's More Than One Way to Explore a Voice
Not everyone wants weekly private lessons. And not everyone learns best that way. Explore Your Voice is designed to give adults different ways to learn, experiment and keep developing.
Workshops
Explore a particular aspect of singing alongside other people. Workshops may focus on a vocal skill, musical style or different way of making music — giving you somewhere to learn, try things and sing with others without committing to an examination programme.
Courses & Resources
Some things are worth exploring in your own time. Vocalogy's courses and learning resources allow you to understand different aspects of voice, singing and wellbeing at your own pace.
Performance Practice
Curious about performing, but don't want the pressure of a competition or formal examination? Vocalogy's Performance Practice gives singers and speakers a supportive environment in which to try performing in front of other people. Participation is optional. You can explore your voice without ever stepping onto a stage.
1:1 Coaching
Sometimes you reach a point where you want more individual attention. Perhaps there is something technically difficult you want to work out. Perhaps you want to refine a particular aspect of your voice. Or perhaps you simply want to understand what your voice needs. This is where 1:1 work with Grace can provide more personalised assessment and technical refinement. Explore in a group. Learn in your own time. Perform if you want to. Go deeper when you need to. There is no single route through Vocalogy.
Singing Can Be Something You Do for Yourself
For many adults, singing sits in a very different part of life from work. There are no emails to answer. No meeting to prepare for. No client waiting. No performance review. For a while, your attention is somewhere else: on breathing, sound, music, words and the people making music with you. Many people are drawn to singing partly because it gives them an enjoyable way to step away from the demands of everyday life. You can come to Vocalogy because you want better technique. And still value the fact that singing gives you something else as well.
Three people. Three very different journeys. All beginning with an interest in developing the voice.
You don't need to know the destination when you begin. Some Vocalogy students have started simply because they enjoyed singing and later discovered ambitions they had never planned.
Jane
Jane came to Vocalogy singing for fun. Over time, her journey expanded. She went on to take singing examinations and eventually auditioned for a local choir — and was accepted. None of those things had to be the reason she began. They became possibilities she chose along the way.
Tan
Tan, a teacher, was interested in developing his voice, including strengthening it for his professional life. Examinations never appealed to him. Instead, he chose to perform in Vocalogy's annual recitals at the time, developing his voice without needing a certificate as the destination.
Koh
Koh had always loved singing but had not had the time or financial opportunity to pursue it when he was younger. When he finally had the opportunity, he began learning. His journey eventually took him through a series of singing examinations and qualifications. He later used what he had learnt to teach singing on a voluntary basis. Three people. Three very different journeys. All beginning with an interest in developing the voice. You don't have to decide where singing is going to take you before you start.
Lara has blossomed not only as a vocalist and musician but matured as a human being with Grace’s guidance and advice. We are deeply grateful and are certain that anyone who works with Grace will walk out of the studio feeling the difference.
Keep Trying Something New
One of the things our students tell us they enjoy about Vocalogy is that we keep changing things. We learn. We experiment. We develop new ideas. And we create new opportunities to explore voice and music. That matters because developing a voice doesn't have to mean repeating the same kind of lesson indefinitely. There is always something else to investigate. A different style. A different skill. A different way of using the voice. A different experience of making music. Some things you may love. Others may not be for you. That's part of exploring.
What Would You Like to Try Next?
Perhaps you want to sing higher. Perhaps you'd like more power. Perhaps there's a style you've always wanted to explore. Perhaps you want to sing with other people. Perhaps you'd like to perform one day. Or perhaps you simply know this: You love singing, and you'd like to get better at it. That's enough.
